The mu (Monotaxis grandoculis) is the only member of the Sparide family in Hawaiian waters. Fairly common singly or in small groups over coral reefs in clear waters. It is an excellent food fish, once plentiful in Hawaiian markets, but it is now quite rare and commands a high price when available.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind, hand-rubbed impression taken from the actual fish. Printed using the direct method of gyotaku using an archival, water soluble, printmaking ink that is oil-based and rubbed onto Xuan rice paper. It is PH neutral (acid free). The paper measures 14 x 26 and has a soft deckle edge.

Titled in the lower left corner “Mu (Monotaxis grandoculis)”,  signed in pencil, and stamped with my red chop in the lower right corner. Comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
